What does PTO really mean?

Alright this is definitely rambling sorts of blog, but hear me out.

So today I got a subpoena for court on Wednesday. I swear I didn't do anything wrong this time. Just some thugs stole some phones from T-Mobile and they caught them and I was working that day, so I have to go testify. Blah blah blah. Basically, two of us have to go in. So I inform my supervisor, and it goes up the chain. They come back and say everything's fine, you can take PTO for the time you are in court, BUT you must show up as soon as you get done.

Let me clarify for those who don't know PTO stands for paid time off. We don't have vacation or sick days we simply have PTO. It's nice to be honest I had this system at the YMCA and I love it. But seriously? I have to time time away from my vacation to go testify on behalf of my company. Not to mention court is at 9:00 am and I close that day so it's going to be a 12 hour day for me basically. Well, I immediately called bullshit and looked it up. Of course I am right and they have to give it to me for free, no PTO must be taken. Though, I have a feeling by fighting them on this the next time I want to take PTO they are going to reject it. So we'll see. I just hate how sometimes you get pooped on for doing what you are suppose to. Why do people just try to take advantage of others?
